Candid Photographs of the Ramones in London, July 1976

Danny Fields was the manager of the Ramones during their first European tour and brought them to the Roundhouse in July 1976. He shared his personal collection of photographs which gives a rare insight into life on the road.

Danny Fields recalled: “Within weeks of the release of the first Ramones album, in April 1976, Seymour Stein, who’d signed the band to Sire Records, told me that the Ramones had been booked to play at the Roundhouse in London (capacity 3,300 people; distance from CBGB’s about 3,400 miles) on the weekend of July 4th.”

“This was an astonishing thing to comprehend; suddenly, everything was ten times more than it had ever been. We went to London, with no idea whatsoever as to what we’d find. The city seemed near the boiling point for many reasons, not least of all because of the weather itself, one of the hottest summers on record.”
“In the audience both nights were members of newly formed bands – some of which had never, or hardly ever, performed yet in public – including the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Damned, the Pretenders, and likely many others.”
