These photographs of the Dursley Carnival were taken by Brian Candy in 1954.
Born in Gloucestershire in September 1930, Candy was given his first camera, an Ensign folding roll film camera, on his 14th birthday. He had a lifelong passion for photography and developed and printed his black and white pictures in his own darkroom.
Candy's working life was spent at the Cotswold Collotype Company in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, where he was an apprentice for five years before doing his two years of National Service, beginning in 1951. He was stationed in Singapore and even then his job involved photography, photographing and developing documents.
